Jerrell Mock named USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Men National Athlete of the Week

Mock became third men’s athlete in the history of the Roy Griak Invitational to repeat as individual champion
NEW ORLEANS – Colorado State senior Jerrell Mock has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Men National Athlete of the Week. The USTFCCCA announced its national athletes of the week on Monday.

Mock earns the national honor after becoming just the third male in the history of the Roy Griak Invitational to capture the individual title in consecutive seasons. The senior is the first to repeat as champion since 2002-03 (BYU's Kip Kangogo).

In addition, Colorado State is the only program in meet history to have the individual men's champion in three straight seasons. CSU's Jefferson Abbey started that streak with his individual title in 2015.

Mock led the 18th-ranked Colorado State men's team to its first-ever team title at Roy Griak Invitational, as the Rams topped a field that included No. 20 UCLA and No. 25 Michigan State. The Rams finished with 47 points to top the Spartans (55 points) and the Bruins (63 points).

The Logan, Utah native pulled away down the stretch, topping the next-closest men's individual by 11 seconds (UCLA's Garrett Reynolds – 25:03.0). Mock improved upon his Griak-winning time from 2016, beating his previous best at the meet by nearly 15 seconds (25:06.3).

The Colorado State cross country team has nearly three weeks away from competition before returning to action at one of the most competitive meets of the year, the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. The prestigious meet is held from the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wis.
