Recap: Rams pick up three huge wins against MW foes in San Diego

CSU to compete against San Diego State, Fresno State, New Mexico
SAN DIEGO – The Colorado State Rams defeated a trio of Mountain West foes in San Diego on Monday, putting together one of the more impressive performances in recent program history.
The Rams beat San Diego State, Fresno State and New Mexico on Monday in a partial preview of the MW Championships in February.
"It's a testament to the hard work and the preparation they've put in all season long," CSU head coach Christopher Woodard said. "They're starting to see that anything is possible. I think they're supercharged after this meet."
CSU got off to a fast start, winning the 200 medley relay (1:45.06). Tonicia Thomas, Madison Ward, Marie Goodwyn and Rowan Hauber combined for the win, beginning what would be a big day for each athlete.
Thomas won both the 100 and 200 backstroke events in dominating fashion, winning each by more than two seconds. Goodwyn also won a pair of events, sweeping the 100 and 200 butterfly.
Ward (100 breaststroke) provided another individual victory, and placed second in the 200 breast. Hauber took second in the 100 freestyle.
CSU's distance swimmers came through, as Haley Rowley, Ida Donohue and Madison Gordley took places No. 2-4 in the 1000 freestyle. This was Rowley's first meet of the season.
The Rams now hold a 5-3 dual meet record on the year. It's CSU's first road win against SDSU since 2008. The Aztecs placed second at the MW Championships last season and have won three league titles since 2011.
CSU will host Northern Arizona on Friday at 5 p.m. at Moby Pool and will honor its seniors in a pre-meet ceremony. The meet will be streamed live on CSURams.com.
