Rams’ men ranked for 22nd consecutive week, dating back to beginning of 2016 season

NEW ORLEANS – The Colorado State men's cross country team checks in at No. 17 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association's (USTFCCCA) weekly national poll. The organization's week five rankings were released on Tuesday.

This marks the 22nd consecutive poll that the coaches' association has voted Colorado State men's cross country among the nation's top 30, dating back to the preseason poll in 2016 (excluding final rankings determined only by national finish). Over the past two seasons, Colorado State has ranked no lower than 18th on the men's side.

In the USTFCCCA's regional rankings, CSU's men place fifth in the highly competitive Mountain Region, while the CSU women's team is ranked ninth regionally. In men's regional rankings, the Rams have ranked no lower than fifth since week three of the 2016 season.

Last time out, Colorado State placed sixth of 35 teams in the men's 8k Cardinal Race at Pre-Nationals in Madison, Wis. Seniors Cole Rockhold, Carson Hume and Eric Hamer each finished among the top 25 individuals as the Rams defeated No. 3 Wisconsin, then-No. 15 Southern Utah and three other nationally ranked teams. On the women's side, seniors Bailey Ness (52nd of 243), senior Ali Kallner (57th) and freshman Lily Tomasula-Martin (62nd) led the Rams to a 16th-place team finish of 36 squads as well as head-to-head wins over eight power conference schools.

The Colorado State cross country team returns to action at the Mountain West Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 26. Competition in this year's conference championships will be held from Morley Field at Balboa Park in San Diego. The women's 6k is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. MT/10 a.m. PT, while the men's 8k is slated for an 11:45 a.m. MT/10:45 a.m. PT start.
