Rams’ men rise one spot in each of the USTFCCCA’s coaches’ poll and CCRI on NCAA Championships week
NEW ORLEANS – The Colorado State men's cross country team heads to this week's NCAA Championships ranked 13th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association's (USTFCCCA) DI National Coaches' Poll and eighth in the Cross Country Rating Index (CCRI).
The Rams moved up a spot in each ranking leading up to nationals, which will be held on Saturday from the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The Rams will compete in the men's 10k at 10:45 a.m. MT/11:45 a.m. CT.
The CCRI is comparable to the Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) model used by other collegiate sports. According to the USTFCCCA, factors considered as part of the CCRI model include season-long individual performances of that team's runners, actual head-to-head team results and margin of victory or defeat. Additional concepts also in the mix are comparable to elements from the ELO ranking system used in rating chess players and from GolfStat, the NCAA's rating system for golf.
Colorado State is one of four teams from the Mountain Region in the top eight of the CCRI. Northern Arizona is No. 1, while BYU ranks second and Colorado check in at No. 7. Each of those teams will also compete at the NCAA Championships on Saturday, as will regional foes Air Force, Wyoming and Southern Utah. No region has more teams in the NCAA Championships field than the Mountain Region (seven of 31).
Colorado State has risen one spot in each CCRI release since rankings 10th in the first release on Oct. 25. The Rams rose to No. 9 following conference weekend and then to No. 8 following their fourth-place finish in regional competition.
The 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships will begin at 9:45 a.m. MT/10:45 a.m. CT on Saturday with the women's championship 6k race. The men's championship 10k race will follow the conclusion of that race, and is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. MT/11:45 a.m. CT. FloTrack subscribers will be able to follow the entirety of the meet through the website's live stream.
