Hassan earns his fourth career weekly indoor conference honor and his 10th overall
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After a season-best mark in the shot put last weekend, senior Mostafa Hassan of the 25th-ranked Colorado State men's track & field team has been named Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Men's Field Athlete of the Week. The conference announced its weekly accolades on Tuesday afternoon.
The four-time First-Team All-American and defending indoor NCAA champion won the shot put at the Don Kirby Invitational with a season-best mark of 64-3.25 (19.59m). With that mark, the Cairo, Egypt native ranks first in the Mountain West, No. 8 in the NCAA, No. 42 in the world and No. 1 among all Egyptian-born athletes.
Tuesday's accolade marks Hassan's 10th weekly conference honor and his fourth in indoor track & field. In addition to his four indoor honors, the senior has also been named Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Men's Field Athlete of the Week six times, including a program-record and MW-record-tying four times in 2017.
Hassan is the first CSU athlete to receive multiple weekly conference honors this season and third CSU athlete to receive honors during 2017-18, joining seniors Jalen Hunter (men's 60-meter hurdles) and Nick Kravec (men's heptathlon). Each of those two seniors earned honors after the opening week of the Rams' current indoor campaign.
The Colorado State track & field team will compete in its final tune-up prior to this year's conference meet when the Rams travel for the Rocky Mountain Classic on Friday in Laramie, Wyo.
