Fischer, Hassan, Rockhold qualify for 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

Rams to compete at the national meet March 9-10 in College Station, Texas

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Grant Fischer, Mostafa Hassan and Cole Rockhold of the Colorado State track & field team have qualified for the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships and will compete on March 9 and 10 at Gilliam Indoor Stadium in College Station, Texas. The NCAA released the list of qualifying athletes on Wednesday.
 
Hassan, the defending indoor shot put champion, will compete once again in the shot put as the No. 3-seeded athlete. Fischer is the No. 13 seed in the 5,000 meters, while Rockhold will compete in the mile and 3,000 meters as the No. 6 and No. 7 seed, respectively.
 
The first of the Rams to compete will be Rockhold, who will run in the mile preliminaries at 4:35 p.m. MT (5:35 p.m. CT) on Friday, March 9. Should he advance, the Independence, Mo., native will compete in the final at 3:10 p.m. MT (4:10 p.m. CT) on Saturday, March 10. The junior climbed to No. 6 in the mile on the NCAA Indoor Qualifying List after running the No. 2 time in Mountain West Indoor Track & Field Championships history (4:02.13/3:56.85 with altitude conversion) last week.
 
Shot put competition for Hassan begins at 6:20 p.m. MT (7:20 p.m. CT) on Friday, March 9. The four-time First-Team All-America shot putter vaulted himself to third on the NCAA Indoor Qualifying List with a mark of 67-8 (20.62m) en route to his third consecutive Mountain West indoor shot put title and his fifth conference shot put title (two outdoor) overall.
 
Fischer will be the final Ram to compete on Friday, March 9, as the 5,000 meters is slated for a 7:05 p.m. MT (8:05 p.m. CT) start. The native of Fort Collins, Colo., qualified with a program-record time of 13:44.24 at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., on Feb. 9. Fischer earned Second-Team All-America honors in the 5,000 meters last indoor season.
 
Rockhold will compete in the final event of the weekend for the Rams, the 3,000 meters, at 5:10 p.m. MT (6:10 p.m. CT) on Saturday, March 10. Rockhold was a First-Team All-America performer in the 3,000 meters last indoor season, and clocked a program-record time of 7:50.10 at the Husky Classic on Feb. 10 to rank as the No. 7 runner in the event this year.
 
The meet can be followed live through an ESPN3 broadcast beginning at 4:30 p.m. MT on Friday, March 9 and at 4 p.m. MT on Saturday, March 10. ESPN2 will re-air the meet at 5 p.m. MT on Sunday, March 11. Live results will also be made available for the entirety of the meet.
