Kelcey Bedard named Mountain West Women’s Field Athlete of the Week; Ronald Sayles tabbed Mountain West Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State's Kelcey Bedard and Ronald Sayles have received conference recognition for performances last week, as Bedard was named Mountain West Women's Field Athlete of the Week and Sayles was named Mountain West Men's Track Athlete of the Week. The league announced its weekly accolades on Tuesday.

Bedard earns her second weekly outdoor conference honor and the third of her career overall (one indoor). This marks the first weekly conference honor of Sayles' career, indoor or outdoor. Colorado State is the only program to receive multiple honors in a single week this season, while its two weekly conference honors to this point are tied for the most of any team in the conference.

Bedard opened her outdoor campaign with a first-place finish and throw of 203-6 (62.04m) in the women's hammer at the Mines Nature's Bakery Invite. A couple of hours later, the junior followed with a discus throw of 163-10 (49.94m).

With her performances, Bedard ranks 13th in the NCAA, 10th on the NCAA West Qualifying List and tops in the Mountain West in the hammer. Additionally, the Fort Collins, Colo., native is the NCAA's 52nd-ranked discus thrower and the No. 30 athlete in the discus on the NCAA West Qualifying List. Bedard is one of four athletes in program history with a hammer throw of 200 feet or better.

Sayles ranks as the Mountain West's top athlete in the 200 meters, 400 meters and is a member of the conference's top-ranked 4x100-meter relay. Among those performances was a time of 47.11 in the 400 meters, which ranks sixth in program history, 24th in the NCAA and 14th on the NCAA West Qualifying List.

The sophomore's 200 meters time was 21.31, a time that has been topped by only eight other athletes in program history. He closed the day on the second leg of the 4x100-meter relay team, which clocked the NCAA's No. 87 time, 41.01.

The Colorado State track & field team returns to action at three meets this weekend. CSU's distance runners will travel for the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Friday and will compete at the Stanford Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The rest of the team will head to the Tom Benich Invitational in Greeley, Colo., on Saturday.
