Six current Rams now ranked within CSU’s all-time top 10 in outdoor men’s 5,000 meters
AZUSA, Calif./LONG BEACH, Calif./TORRANCE, Calif. – The Colorado State track & field team now has six current athletes among the program's all-time top 10 in the outdoor men's 5,000 meters following performances on Friday night at the Mt. SAC Relays.
Grant Fischer posted the Rams' best 5,000 meters time on Friday, placing within the top 10 collegiate finishers in the elite invitational section after clocking a time of 13:47.52. Only four athletes in the nation had a better time prior to Friday, and only three athletes in program history have run the 5,000 faster (Jefferson Abbey, Cole Rockhold and Mike Klass). Jerrell Mock also competed in the elite invitational section in Torrance, Calif., and stopped the clock in 14:05.14 in his first 5,000 in over a year (13:52.06 on April 14, 2017 at Mt. SAC Relays).
Fischer and Mock had already ranked in CSU's all-time top 10 in the outdoor 5,000, but Eric Hamer, Wayde Hall and Carson Hume joined them in that group after all three recorded personal bests in Friday's open section. Hamer placed third in that heat with a time of 14:00.55, while Hall took fourth with a time of 14:00.84 and Hume ran a time of 14:03.64 to finish seventh. Hamer's time ranks seven in program history, while Hall's ranks eighth and Hume's places 10th. All three times are expected to qualify for NCAA regionals based upon historical data.
In 1,500 meters action at the Bryan Clay Invitational (Azusa, Calif.), Cole Rockhold clocked a time of 3:41.80 to place as the No. 16 collegian in a race that produced four sub-3:37 times and the NCAA's new collegiate record (3:35.01 by New Mexico's Josh Kerr). Only two other athletes have had a faster 1,500 meters time than Rockhold in program history (former All-Americans Bryan Berryhill and Richie Harris). Sophomore Eli Oftedal ran a personal-best time of 3:50.45 in the sixth heat of the night, moving up to 16th on CSU's all-time outdoor list with his performance.
On the women's side, each of Roxy Trotter and Dominique Ward ran within one second of their personal bests, clocking respective times of 4:25.64 and 4:27.39. Ali Kallner ran a personal-best time of 4:28.81, which ranks at No. 19 in the event on CSU's all-time outdoor list.
In her first collegiate 100-meter hurdles race at sea level, Destinee Rocker clocked a personal-best time of 13.41 to take second place in the collegiate open section at the Mt. SAC Relays. With that performance, Rocker improved upon her own freshman record (previously 13.45) and narrowed the gap between her No. 2 all-time mark and CSU's all-time record (13.26 by former All-American Lorenda Holston). The Lithonia, Ga., native now ranks at 38th in the NCAA and sixth among all freshmen nationally.
Three Rams topped 190 feet in the women's hammer at the Beach Invitational, led by Kelcey Bedard's throw of 197-3 (60.13m). Linnea Jonsson finished with a best effort of 194-9 (59.36m), while Aimee Larrabee's top mark on Friday was 191-7 (58.39m).
IN THEIR WORDS
Colorado State distance coach Art Siemers
"I thought we had some good things happen this weekend, and I thought we ran tough given the travel. We're taking the right steps to doing some big things heading to the end of the season. I thought that the guys running in the last 5k of the night ran especially well. Their goal was to run a time that would be an NCAA first-round qualifier and traditionally that's under 14:05. They did that, and that's a big PR for each of those guys."
NOTES

Grant Fischer and Jerrell Mock are also on that list with times run last season.
