SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The stingiest region in the country lived up to its billing Friday at the NCAA Mountain Region Cross Country Championships with the Colorado State women finishing 10th and the men 11th at the Rose Park Golf Course.

The women's race started the action on the campus of Utah this morning and it featured six teams in USTFCCCA's top 20. The nation's No. 3-ranked team, BYU, won the race followed by No. 10 New Mexico, No. 15 Air Force, No. 18 Colorado, No. 9 Utah, and No. 16 Northern Arizona. The Rams took 10th out of the 19 competing teams.

Redshirt-sophomore Lily Tomasula-Martin clocked a time of 20:38.4 to earn All-Mountain Region honors by being in the top-25. She finished two spots ahead of the qualifying cutoff, but four individuals not on advancing teams finished above her to take an at-large bid to the national meet. In the five events she has competed in this season, she has been the top Ram in every race.

At noon the men's 10K set off with five total ranked teams with CSU representing the last of the bunch at 25th. The nation's top team, Northern Arizona, won the race followed by No. 3 Colorado and No. 2 BYU. Utah State, ranked 20th, took fourth. The Rams ended in 11th with a score of 305 points.

For the second time this season, the Rams' top finisher was redshirt-senior Satchel Caldwell. He came in 32nd overall at 31:27.4. Following in second and third for the team was Maximilliano Martinez and Matt Begeman in 52nd and 57th, respectively – both marking best finishes for the season.

The race concludes the cross country season for the Rams. The first indoor track and field event for Colorado State is scheduled for Dec. 5-6 at the CSM Alumni Classic and Multi in Golden, Colo.
