Rams’ Dawson, Mooney sweep Mountain West Men’s Athlete of the Week honors

Freshmen Michael Mooney, Adam Dawson are the sixth and seventh Rams to earn weekly conference accolades during the 2018-19 academic year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State freshmen Adam Dawson and Michael Mooney have combined to sweep this week's Mountain West Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors. The conference announced its weekly accolades on Tuesday.
 
Dawson was named the league's men's field athlete of the week, while Mooney is the conference's men's track athlete of the week. It is the first weekly conference recognition for each of Dawson and Mooney. The two are the sixth and seventh members of the Colorado State track & field team to earn weekly recognition from the conference during the 2018-19 academic year, along with Kelcey Bedard, Hunter PowellMarybeth SantRonald Sayles and Cole Rockhold (cross country).
 
Dawson earns conference recognition after a personal-best performance in the men's weight throw over the past weekend. The freshman placed as the top collegian in the event at the Colorado Invitational, finishing with a best throw of 62-2.25 (18.95m). That performance ranks among the Mountain West's top marks this season, and ranks 71st in the NCAA.
 
Mooney made his Colorado State debut in the mile at the Colorado Invitational, winning his first collegiate race with a time of 4:11.33 (4:05.20 when converted for altitude). The freshman's mile time is the best in the Mountain West to this point in the indoor season, and ranks 71st in the NCAA.
 
The Colorado State track & field team travels to compete at multiple prestigious meets this weekend. Among those on the schedule at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., as well as the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash.
