Senior set to compete June 5-6 in Austin, Texas

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The NCAA Championships for track & field bring together the top 24 competitors nationally, and Colorado State senior decathlete Hunter Powell is the first to land a spot for the Rams.

His score of 7,386 to win the Mountain West championship earned him the final spot in the field. He will compete June 5-6 in Austin, Texas, the first two days of the four-day event.

Powell's total ranks fourth in CSU history as he won the 100 meters and the pole vault at the conference meet in Clovis, Calif. He placed second in the shot put, the 400, the discus and the javelin.

The Rams will send 18 competitors to compete in 16 events (plus two women's relays) at the NCAA West Preliminaries May 23-25 Sacramento, Calif. The top 12 qualifiers in each event advance to the NCAA Championships.
