RamWire: The Student-Athlete Summer Career Experience

The Student-Athlete Summer Career Experience is a program founded in 2012 as a way to creatively engage student-athletes in internships and work experience while they are in Fort Collins during the summer. Currently in its 8th year, the program has developed into a tiered model to effectively serve student-athletes with collaboration from the Division of Student Affairs (Dr. Blanche Hughes, Dr. Craig Chesson), the Career Center (Amy Cailene), and Student-Athlete Support Services (Marie Tyrrell).

Student-athletes in their first year of the program take a career development class taught by staff in the Career Center; they also pair this class with a 42 hour work experience in various offices on CSU's campus. If students decide to return to the program for future summers, they are placed in more intentional offices to begin relevant internship experiences both on and off campus to add to their resumes. The goal of the program is to engage student-athletes in experiential learning as part of the career exploration and development process while also connecting them with the CSU and Fort Collins community as a whole.
