FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Welcome to a new year. A new decade.

Here's to hoping all the resolutions you made last longer than a week. And if you didn't make one, good for you.

On to your questions ….

The football staff. Tell us the staff!!
How much longer until Addazio's staff gets announced? Who they'll bring in or retain?

Technically, the first one was not a question, but I get the point, and right now, y'all have a one-track mind.

I get it. The staff, especially the coordinators, will give you an indication of what Addazio is looking to do with the Rams in the upcoming season, but patience. I get the feeling as a fan base, CSU supporters open up presents on Christmas Eve.

As I wrote last week, these things take time, and the bowl season will delay some decisions, even rearrange them, create a bit of chaos from chain effects. We've already seen it, as Corey Dennis was expected to be the quarterbacks coach, but with moves at Ohio State, he will stay put with the Buckeyes.

There are still five bowl games to be played, not counting the National Championship game on Jan. 13, and if Addazio is looking at anybody from his former Boston College staff, well, they played today.

Addazio is working on it, trust me. He said his goal for putting together his staff was to have it in place a week before the recruiting dead period ended. The period ends Jan. 16, so around Jan. 9 would be ideal to him. The contact period begins Jan. 17 (a Friday) and runs through Feb. 1 (a Saturday).

Coaches will be in place and working long before the hire becomes official, as the university works through background checks.

What was the most encouraging aspect of the women's win Wednesday?

The shooting, for sure.

Coach Ryun Williams has scratched his head all season with his team getting good looks at the basket and not converting. As it turned out, they really needed a good shooting night to hold off a Nevada team that wouldn't go away.

The Rams hit 52.5 percent in the game, and were a bit better behind the arc (39.1 percent) than they have been. They can still shoot better from deep, as Tori Williams still hasn't found her stroke in game action. Williams said after the game that surprised him a bit, as the guard was shooting lights out in practice the previous two days. So he feels that's coming.

The Rams need to keep the trend going with a tough road test in the Border War on Saturday against a Wyoming team which is 3-0 in Mountain West play.

Eventually, the team will get Lore Devos back in the lineup, though it will still take her a bit to get up to speed, but even the few minutes she can play early will help spare some game action for a few Rams playing  more minutes than Williams would prefer.

Was the excitement about the men's squad premature?

Not exactly, but an 0-3 start in Mountain West play isn't what coach Niko Medved was hoping to see. It wasn't an easy road for the Rams, with San Diego State 4-0, Nevada 2-0 and Boise State 2-1 in the early going. However, those are the teams you want to make some noise against to make headway.

So far, they've been hot and cold when it comes to shooting. A sluggish start against Nevada doomed them, much the way it did when Colorado came to Moby in late December. It's not that the Rams have been bad (they rank in the middle of the MW pack in offensive metrics), but they need to be more consistent, and shooting better from the free throw line wouldn't hurt a bit.

There have been obvious performances which highlight why people were excited about this team at the start, a lot of which had to do with the promise. Promise (i.e., youth) requires an aging process.

They draw a Wyoming team Saturday which is also 0-3 in conference play, and the Border War is as good of a time as any to begin to turn the corner.

What's the best resolution to make for 2020?

There isn't one for all of us, but there can be one for each of us. If I can suggest anything, I'd say take the advice attributed to John Lennon.

"When I was 5-years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life," The Beatle once said. "When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down 'happy.' They told me I didn't understand the assignment, and I told them they didn't understand life."

That opens the door for many options, be they mental or physical changes in your life, but the end game is clear. I hope you all find a way to make 2020 a happier time of your life.
