Colorado State Shifting Operations Following Fall Break

To align with the University’s fully remote plan following fall break, out-of-season teams will shift to voluntary activities for the remainder of the semester
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – As Colorado State University transitions to fully remote learning following the conclusion of fall break, Colorado State Athletics is also modifying its operations for multiple sport programs out of an abundance of caution due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
Sport programs who are not in-season at this time will have their in-person activities shifted to voluntary only, and in-person strength and conditioning activities will be provided on a strict schedule. Sports medicine appointments will continue as those activities have been by appointment only for the fall semester.
Â
In-season teams (football, men's and women's basketball, and swimming and diving) will continue with their team activities as normal and follow their return to activity plans that have been reviewed and approved by the University's Pandemic Preparedness Team.
Â
Student-athletes will continue to receive academic support from Student-Athlete Academic Support Services (SASS), and the Anderson Academic Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Â
At the beginning of the fall semester, Colorado State Athletics went through an opt-in process for participation in fall activities – resulting in a 97-percent opt-in rate – and the department will repeat that exercise in the spring for all student-athletes for the winter and spring semesters. Student-athletes who do not choose to opt-in will be defaulted as an opt-out. An opt-out decision will not impact scholarship or financial aid, if applicable, unless student-athletes who may receive cost-of-living stipends re-locate out of Fort Collins.
Â
Athletic department staff are encouraged to continue working remotely unless otherwise needed for their work responsibilities. The department also continues to work with local and state health professionals to dictate operational procedures and policies as guidance changes frequently.
Â
As of Nov. 19, Colorado State Athletics, in partnership with CSU Public Health, has conducted 3,275 COVID-19 tests with student-athletes, resulting in the identification of 75 positive cases, a positivity rate of just 2.29 percent, well below the positivity rate for Larimer County (4.9 percent as of Nov. 20).
