The Rams will be in the pool again following the new year on Jan. 16 at Denver.
USAFA, Colo. β Senior Jennae Frederick took top honors in the 200-yard fly (2:07.21) and second in the 100-yard fly to pace Colorado State as the Rams opened their 2020-21 campaign at Air Force in a double dual vs. the Falcons and Wyoming.
Β
All totaled, Colorado State posted 23 top-five finishes across the 16 events in the double dual including a particularly dominant showing in the 200-yard fly as the Rams locked up four of the top five spots: Frederick (1st), Kendra Preski (3rd, 2:08.55), Hannah Sykes (4th, 2:10.87), and Madi Hunter (5th, 2:11.73).
Β
The Rams fell in both team totals 184-116 vs. Wyoming and 177-123 vs. Air Force.
Β
"We are so grateful for the opportunity to compete again," said head coach Christopher Woodard. "Some of our athletes had to wait 10 long months for this, so above everything else, it was just great to get back in the pool. The inconsistency in training this fall definitely showed tonight, but there was a lot of good to take away as well."
Β
Other top finishers for the Rams came in the 200-yard medley as Frederick, along with teammates Olivia Chatman, Maddie Ward, and Kristina Friedrichs took third with a 1:45.41 time. The freshman Preski, swimming in her first meet as a Ram, posted a strong showing in her two events as she finished fifth in the 1000-yard freestyle with a 10:56.00 time alongside her third place showing in the 200-yard fly.
Β
Friedrichs finished within a fingernail of Air Force's Mariah Maile in the 50-yard freestyle for second place at 23.61, just .14 seconds behind Maile's top time of 23.47. In the 100-yard backstroke, Elsa Litteken added another second place finish with a time of 56.90 β just a second behind than Air Force's Kylie Stronko.
Β
On the diving boards, Holland posted a 250.5 on the three-meter board to finish in second place and a 234.50 on the one-meter board to finish in fifth.
Β
"We had some great performances, specifically from Jennae Frederick, Elsa Litteken, Kristina Friedrichs, and Rachel Holland. It was a trial by fire for our freshmen, and I thought they handled themselves really well."
Β
Colorado State returns to the pool on Jan. 16 when they travel back south, this time stopping in Denver for a Noon dual at the University of Denver.
