Senior won two races in season finale

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Julia Box didn't swim all of her normal events in the final regular-season dual, but the Colorado State senior was spot on in her performances, earning her Mountain West swimmer of the week honors, the conference announced today.

Box won a pair of events in the Rams' 146.5-114.5 victory over Northern Colorado in Greeley, finishing second in a third and helping the 200-yard medley relay team set the pace of the day with a win in the opening race.

Box started with a 24.94 butterfly split in the relay, then won the 100 backstroke from Lane 6 three races later in an altitude-adjusted 56.71, the third-best time by a CSU swimmer in the event this year as part of a 1-2-3 sweep. She came back later to win the 100 butterfly in 56.19 after taking second in the 100 freestyle in 52.90.

Box becomes the first CSU swimmer to earn the weekly honor since Tonicia Thomas in January of 2018. Junior Skylar Williams was named the diver of the week on Jan. 14 of this season. The Boulder native currently holds the best time of the year for the Rams in each the 100 and 200 butterfly, as well as top-three times in a trio of other events.

Colorado State finished the dual season with a 6-4 mark and now turns its attention to the Mountain West Championships. The four-day event runs Feb. 19-22 at the Freeman Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
