Divers Looking for More After 3-Meter Results

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In a tough field, a little bit off will result in a quick day.

Colorado State's women divers didn't hit completely in the preliminary round of the 3-meter competition at the Air Force Invitational on Friday, meaning none of the Rams were able to advance further in the competition.

"All the women divers are gaining valuable experience and can use this meet to perform better at our Mountain West Championships in a few weeks," CSU diving coach Chris Bergere said. "Practice next week will mean more because of a disappointing performance here.  Changes will be made, and for a coach, this is the silver lining."

Skylar Williams had the best score, her 240.65 putting her in 18th place out of 34 entrants. Rachel Holland scored a 234.70 to sit 22nd, and McKenna O'Reilly was 25th at 219.20.

Bergere said Williams, who had set a personal-best the day before in the 1-meter, was just around average in her performance, but he did see some steps forward for a couple of his younger divers.

"Halley Buhlig and McKenna O'Reilly dove very well compared to yesterday," Bergere said. "Halley surprised all of us executing a very difficult dive, new in here repertoire, and crushed it receiving favorable scores from the judges, but more importantly inspiring our team.  Anything is possible in competition and it was a beautiful moment to witness."

The Rams close out the three-day event Saturday with the platform competition. The preliminary round begins at 10 a.m.
