Team travels to Golden on Saturday for a double dual

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – With the doors wide open for the first time in nearly two full calendar years, Colorado State women's swimming and diving is set to host Denver at Moby Arena for a Pink Out dual on Friday.

The meet begins at 3:15 p.m., with 3-meter diving, with swimming starting at 4 p.m.  Admission is free to the public.

The last time the Rams were able to host a meet with fans was against Kansas, back on Oct. 26, 2019.

"Hopefully with a pretty big crowd after a year where we could see no one," CSU coach Christopher Woodard said about the squad's anticipation to be at home. "I think they'll be absolutely amped up if there's a crowd there and the music's playing, they're in their lanes and on their blocks and on their boards. I think they're going to be very excited."

The weekend for the team will conclude with a double dual on Saturday at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, as the Rams take on the host Miners and the University of Mary. This is the second weekend of competition for them and the second time swimming on successive days, which Woodard likes.

"Two days? Give me three days," Woodard said. "I love seeing them swim and dive on back-to-back days, because it not only about their performance level, it tells me about their toughness and their ability to switch gears between different programs, as well as different sites. I'm excited about it. I think it can reveal a lot to us."

Colorado State had a successful opening to the season, winning seven duals at the Intermountain Shootout in Grand Junction. The Rams picked up individual race wins from freshmen Maisy Barbosa (400-yard individual medley) and Katie McClelland (100 breaststroke), with a host of other top-eight finished throughout the two-day event.

The Rams are looking to build off that performance, coming out this season with the mantra of believing they are capable of accomplishing more than they have in the past, and Friday's meet serves as a reminder. In Denver, CSU faces a team they were able to knock off for the first time in 10 tries a year ago.

"With this senior class, when they came in as freshmen, I think we viewed ourselves as underdogs but on the rise," Woodard said. "Two years of scoring everyone at conference and the first weekend, I think their confidence is starting to swell. They realize there's still work to be done, and the competition ahead of them is likely harder. I don't think they're afraid of that, and that gives me a lot of confidence going into any meet that win, lose or draw, they're going to come out of it unswayed about their potential. The biggest thing was not to wait until conference to be good, let's start being great right from the beginning."

Saturday's meet begins at 10 a.m. at the natatorium on the campus of Colorado School of Mines.
