The four-class average rate tied San Diego State for the best rate in the Mountain West.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Over a four-year rolling window, Colorado State Athletics graduated its student-athletes at the highest rate of any program in the Mountain West according to the NCAA's most recent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) report released on Thursday.
Colorado State's 71-percent mark tied San Diego State for the highest graduation rate in the Mountain West, and the Rams were one of just three schools to post a four-year average rate over 70 percent in the league.
Year-over-year, Colorado State's GSR improved from 85 percent for students who entered college in 2013-14 to 87 percent for students who began in 2014-15.
Three sport programs - men's golf, soccer, and volleyball - posted perfect 100 GSR scores in the most recent report, and four others – men's basketball, women's basketball, football, and softball – posted GSR scores at or above the national average in Division I.
About the Graduation Success Rate:
The Division I Board of Directors created the GSR in 2002 in response to Division I college and university presidents who wanted data that more accurately reflected the mobility of college students beyond what the federal graduation rate measures. The federal rate counts as an academic failure any student who leaves a school, no matter whether he or she enrolls at another school. Also, the federal rate does not recognize students who enter school as transfer students.
The GSR formula removes from the rate student-athletes who leave school while academically eligible and includes student-athletes who transfer to a school after initially enrolling elsewhere. This calculation provides a more accurate appraisal of student-athlete success.
