Both bring solid collegiate results to the Rams for 2022-23

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State swimming coach Christopher Woodard announced Thursday the addition of two transfers student-athletes who will join the program for the 2022-23 season. Previously this recruiting cycle, the team added four incoming freshman for next season.

The additions of Sydney St. Rose-Finear and Lucy Matheson are expected to provide immediate impact for a team set to lose seven seniors. With proven collegiate results to their credit, the duo will bring depth and versatility to a Rams team which has begun this season with 13 consecutive dual victories and has had seven performances in the lanes and in the diving well crack the program's top five lists.

Sydney St. Rose-Finear | Rochester, N.Y. | Wheatland Chili HS (Cincinnati)

She will add pop to the distance crew, enrolling at Colorado State as a graduate student with one year of eligibility remaining after a great run at Cincinnati. She has posted NCAA 'B' cuts in her career in both the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyles, placing in both events throughout her career at the AAC Championships, as well as in the 200 free, with a personal-best time of 1:47.80. Her personal bests in the 200, 500, 1,000 and 1,650 frees would all rank in CSU's top five.

Woodard says: "What struck us when Sydney contacted us – it was a no-brainer on paper with her times – in our meetings with here, it was her demeanor. We know she's going to bring some veteran leadership, and her consistency as well. She rarely has a meet where she's off. From her presence, her dedication and academics, we are happy to add her, and she came highly recommended by her current coach."

Lucy Matheson | Longmont, Colo. | Longmont (New Mexico State)

She will make her return to the state and to the pool after taking a year off following her freshman season for the Aggies. She was a two-event placer at the WAC Championships, finishing fourth in the 200 backstroke and fifth in the 200 butterfly. She brings versatility to the roster with the ability to hit strong marks in both the 400 individual medley and 500 freestyle. A former Colorado high school 3A state champion has three years of eligibility remaining.

Woodard says: "I always have a soft spot for Colorado kids when they want to come home. I understand that draw of wanting to be close to family. She was a kid we looked at seriously out of high school. She has discipline and a variety of events and great endurance. Having someone like that on the team has the potential for high reward."
