Friedrichs, Sykes make team second consecutive year

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – With a string of strong performances at the conference championships, five Colorado State swimmers earned a spot on the All-Mountain West swimming and diving team, announced by the league today.

All-conference honors are achieved with a top-eight finish in an individual event or top three for relays.

Juniors Kristina Friedrichs and Abbey Owenby earned their place on the team in two events each. Friedrichs placed third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.79 which ranks third all-time at Colorado State and fourth in the 100 freestyle in a time of 50.46. Owenby landed on the team by placing fifth in the 1,650 freestyle (17:08.79) and seventh in the 400 individual medley with a personal-best time of 4:24.84.

For Friedrichs, it was the second consecutive year she's made the team, as it was for sophomore Hannah Sykes by placing seventh in the 200 butterfly (2:02.03).

Like Owenby, sophomore Liza Lunina and freshman Anika Johnson earned all-conference for the first time. Lunina's spot came with an eighth-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:02.54), while Johnson's recognition comes from her eighth-place showing in the 200 free (1:50.74). Her preliminary time of 1:49.60 ranks fourth all-time at Colorado State.
