Another Department-Best Number of Academic Honors for CSU
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A day after Colorado State had a department-high 235 Academic All-Mountain West honors, the Rams picked up 158 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors, announced by the conference Thursday.
The number is almost double the output from last year's 82 and is 86 more than the 2018-19 total. Like Wednesday's numbers, the achievements were reflected on the conference level too with a record 1,351 student-athletes named, surpassing the previous Conference record of 1,023 honorees in the 2019-20 academic year. All 14 CSU teams were represented.
Fifteen athletes across eight sports donned perfect 4.0 GPAs throughout the year, which include women's basketball Karly Murphy; men's cross country/track and field Gannon Willcutts; women's cross country/track and field Maggie Smith and Lauren Neugeboren; women's soccer Aleyse Evers; softball Jordan Acosta, Jessica Jareck, and Maya Matsubara; women's swimming and diving Emma Breslin, Jennae Frederick, Megan Hager, Anika Johnson, and Liza Lunina; women's tennis Lou Regen; volleyball's Sasha Colombo.
To be eligible for the 2020-21 Scholar-Athlete team, student-athletes must have completed at least two semesters or three quarters at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. The athletic contribution/participation requirement has been omitted for this award this year due to the impact of COVID-19.
