Lily Tomasula-Martin Earns Conference Weekly Honor
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Redshirt senior Lily Tomasula-Martin was named Mountain West's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for her performance in last Thursday's Bill Dellinger Invitational, announced Tuesday by the league office.
Â
Tomasula-Martin, of Estes Park, Colo., placed ninth out of 166 runners with a time of 20:20.5 in the 6,000-meter race. Teamwise, she led the then No. 25-ranked Rams to a second-place finish above four higher-ranked teams in the stacked Oregon race that featured a total of nine ranked or receiving-votes teams. With the performance, the Rams jumped three spots to No. 22 in USTFCCCA's Week 3 poll that also was released Tuesday, marking the highest the Ram women have been since 2008.
Â
At the Bill Dellinger Invite, three Rams finished in the top-20 with the final two scorers placing 29th and 32nd to round out the Colorado State points. For Tomasula-Martin, it is her second weekly conference honor in her career.
Â
The award marks the second of the season for the Rams as Claudia Burgess received the honor after the season opener.
Â
Next, the Rams will run in the UCCS Open, hosted by UC-Colorado Springs, on Oct. 8th in Colorado Springs, Colo.
