Honor is first for sophomore who broke two pool records this weekend
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – With a spectacular start to her sophomore season, Colorado State's Erin Dawson was recognized as the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Â
Dawson put up a pair of victories Saturday – both of which established natatorium records at Colorado School of Mines – to help the Rams sweep duals with the host Miners and New Mexico State. The results gave the Rams a streak of 16 consecutive dual wins, the second-longest run in program history.
Â
Dawson won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:09.54, then followed by setting the pace in the 400 IM in 4:32.70, leading a 1-2-3 sweep of the event for the team. She had placed in both events the week prior at the Chick-fil-A Invitational, and her times going from sea level to altitude were in the same neighborhood. She also placed fifth in the 500 freestyle. The race wins were the first of her collegiate career.
Â
This is the first weekly conference honor for the Sparks, Nev., product and the second in as many weeks for Colorado State. Alexis Trietley was named the Freshman of the Week after the season-opening invitational. The Rams return to competition Oct. 28 with a dual at Denver.
