Fifth-year leads country in Pentathlon so far this season
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Fifth-year multi athlete Lexie Keller was named the Mountain West Field Athlete of the Week Tuesday after her nation-leading performance at the UCCS Colorado Running Co. Pre-Holiday Invite and Multi this past weekend.
Â
The All-American from last season competed in her first pentathlon of the year where she totaled 4,137 points including throwing a new personal best in the shot put with a throw of 43 feet and 11.75 inches. Keller's mark of 4,137 points not only leads the country in the pentathlon so far this season, but it also broke the UCCS Fieldhouse facility record.
Â
Keller is the reigning Mountain West Champion in the outdoor pentathlon, earning her a bid to the NCAA Championship meet last season where she placed sixth. She is also the current school record holder for both the indoor pentathlon and outdoor heptathlon while also boasting the Mountain West Championship record for the outdoor heptathlon as well, set last season.
Â
As the reigning Mountain West Indoor Women's Athlete of the Year, this is Keller's first weekly award this season.
Â
Keller and the Rams will continue their season in the new year at the Potts Invitational January 13 and 14 hosted by Colorado.
