Matheson, Trietley Earn Third Conference Honors

Second time this season the duo has earned awards in same week
FORT COLLINS, Colo.  – A three-peat for each. And for the second time this year, Colorado State women's swimming and diving's Lucy Matheson and Lexie Trietley have earned Mountain West honors in the same week.

On Tuesday, the conference announced Matheson as the Swimmer of Week and Trietley as the Freshman of the Week. Matheson becomes the first Colorado State swimmer to earn the weekly honor three times in a season, and Trietley becomes the first Ram to earn the freshman honor three times in a season in the two years the award has existed.

The duo played a big role in Colorado State's sweep of Mountain West foes New Mexico and Air Force over the weekend, pushing the program's dual win streak to 20 in a row. The Rams topped the Lobos 272-81 and the Falcons 237-116.

Matheson won all three of her individual races, giving her a personal streak of 10 consecutive dual wins, a run which has included four different events. On Friday, she won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:02.17 and the 100 butterfly in 55.34. She followed up Saturday with a victory in the 200 butterfly, her 2:00.63 matching teammate Amanda Hoffman for the fourth fastest time in program history. In addition, Matheson swam legs on the winning 200 and 400 medley relays.

Matheson is the first Ram to have double-digit race wins in a season since Haley Rowley won 11 in the 2018-19 campaign.

And Trietley is set to join her. The freshman won both the 50 and 100 freestyles over the two days, posting times of 23.28 and 50.72, respectively. She has yet to lose a collegiate 100 free event as she pushed her individual win total to nine on the year. She also aided in all four winning relays, anchoring all four.

The Rams have now won the swimmer of the week honor four of the eight weeks this season, with Erin Dawson doing it first in October. Trietley is the only conference freshman to have won the weekly honor more than once this season.
