Colorado State Women Lead, while Men are Second

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.– A few podium visits and some qualifying marks Friday has the Colorado State track and field programs in a position to contend going into the final day of the Mountain West Championships.

The women hold the lead with 48 points, but the standings have top five teams within 25 points. Air Force on the other hand have a sizable lead on the men's side at 85 with the Rams being in second at 45. The first event that a Ram competes on Saturday is the men's high jump at 9:30 a.m. Track events will commence at 11:10 a.m. and the last scheduled race is the men's 4x400m relay at 2:15.

The first points handed out Friday was the conclusion of the men's heptathlon with three of the four Rams combining to total 10 points. Mauricio Galindo Vega led the group with a fourth-place finish and five points, while Drew Thompson and Elijah Scott followed in sixth and seventh. All three earned personal records and improved their school marks with Galindo Vega climbing to seventh.

Silver medals from Eldridge Harris and Mariano Kis represented the men on the podium. Harris, of Roswell, Ga., jumped 15'9'' in the pole vault, while Kis, of Buenos Aires, Argentina, tossed the weight throw 63'7'' for a PR, which tied 17th in CSU History. Both added eight points to the men's tally.

On the women's side, Jordan Lanning picked up a runner-up medal in the last completed event of the day, the high jump. She cleared 5'10'' for a PR and a share of seventh in CSU History. The only other award winner was Tarynn Sieg (Bown) who took third in the weight throw with a mark of 63'10''.

A total of 14 men and 10 women notched qualifying marks to advance to Saturday's finals in their respective races. Lauren Gale clocked the top times in both the 200m and 400m, while Anna Petr did so in the mile. Tom Willems also advanced in the 200 and 400. The men's 800 final will have three Rams and the men's 60-meter hurdles will have four on Saturday as all moved on.
