Colorado State Earns 26 All-MW Awards
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nineteen Colorado State track and field student-athletes combined for 23 individual All-Mountain West indoor honors, while all four CSU relay teams also gained honors, announced by the league office Tuesday.
Â
The all-conference team is made up of the top three finishers in each event. Four student-athletes picked up two nods for their individual performances in Albuquerque, N.M. at the Mountain West Championships.
Â
On the men's side, Tom Willems (400m, 1st; 200m, 2nd) and Mariano Kis (Shot Put, 1st; Weight Throw, 2nd) completed the feat. For Willems, it is the second time doing so as he was a two-time recipient in last year's outdoor meet, while Kis' two trips to the podium was a career best.
Â
Like Willems, Lauren Gale obtained her two All-MW honors from the 400 and 200 – both wins, however. She became the first female to sweep the two events since 2005 and the first ever to go 5-for-5 in MW 400-meter races between indoor and outdoor MW championships. She now has six individual All-MW awards and another four in relays. Bettering that count was Tarynn Sieg (Bown) with her seventh and eighth all-time All-MW medals. She placed second in the shot put and weight in the weight throw for her third-straight MW meet with at least two honors.
Â
Colorado State was the only school to finish in the top three of all four relays. No other school for one gender even finished top three in both the 4x400-meter and distance medley relay races, while the Rams did it twice. The men's 4x400-meter relay team became the first champion of the event in school history.
Â
Of the 10 women honored in the individual awards, four were first-time recipients and four were experiencing their first indoor conference meet as a Ram. Those who added their first MW honor were Megan Mooney, Janyah Jasper, Anna Petr, and Celyn Stermer. Ones that were taking in their first indoor conference meet were Mooney, Jasper, Petr, and Gabi McDonald.
Â
For the men, only three of the 10 honored were first-time recipients. After finishing fourth in his outdoor MW debut last year, Eldridge Harris leveled up to second in the pole vault. Northern Colorado transfers Cameron Ross and Adam Stark grabbed their first conference awards at CSU, finishing second in the 800 and third in the 400, respectively. Back on the podium after some injury battles the past year was Jackson Morris who now has five All-MW nods but first since 2019.
Â
The All-MW awards join the two already received awards of Most Outstanding Performer to Lauren Gale and Women's Coach of the Year to Brian Bedard.
Â
The Colorado State women won the program's fifth women's indoor title, while the men finished runner-up. The title continues CSU's stretch of years winning at least one conference title (MW Indoor or Outdoor, Male or Female) to four. Â
