Lexie Keller Named USTFCCCA Mountain Region Women’s Field Athlete of the Year; Brian Bedard Women’s Coach of the Year
NEW ORLEANS – In the USTFCCCA Mountain Region, junior Lexie Keller was named the Women's Field Athlete of the Year, while head coach Brian Bedard was recognized as the Women's Coach of the Year, announced on Thursday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) in the NCAA DI indoor awards.
Â
Keller, of Albuquerque, N.M., becomes the first female Ram to earn the indoor regional athlete of the year honor in Colorado State history. Shadae Lawrence obtained the outdoor version of the honor in 2019. Just days ago, Keller earned First Team All-America after her third-place finish in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships, which was the highest finish among any Mountain West female student-athlete across all events. She scored 4,321 points to reestablish her own school record and moved to second all-time in the conference. At the MW meet, Keller contributed 13 points to the team score from a second-place pent finish and a fourth-place 60-meter hurdle showing. In the Mountain Region, she concluded in the top 15 in pentathlon, long jump, high jump and 60m hurdles.
Â
For Bedard, the award marks his third for the women in the indoor season as he earned the accolade in 2016 and 2019. The honor is the fourth for a CSU coach since Del Hessel also received the nod in 2006. Two and half weeks ago, Bedard led the CSU women to their fifth all-time Mountain West Indoor Championship and fourth in the past seven seasons. He was named the Mountain West Women's Indoor Coach of the Year for the third time.
Â
The USTFCCCA Mountain Region consists of 20 teams ranging from the Big 12, Pac 12, Big Sky, Conference USA, Mountain West, and WAC.
