Jackson Morris advances in the discus, while Jacob Brueckman qualifies in the 1500 to cap the CSU men at NCAA West

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Two Rams, Jackson Morris and Jacob Brueckman, punched their ticket to the NCAA Championships in their respective events Friday in the men's final day of the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds at John McDonell Field.

Morris, of Albuquerque, N.M., already advanced to nationals for the javelin on Wednesday, but after Friday's seventh-place discus finish, he'll be doing two events in Eugene. On his last attempt, Morris hit a 56.13m/184-2 to move on to the next round. If Morris didn't improve after his second throw, he still would have squeaked in at 12th, but the seventh place was for good measure. Morris was the only student-athlete in the NCAA West to participate in the discus and javelin.

Shortly after, Brueckman placed fifth in the first heat of two in the 1500-meter quarterfinals, guaranteeing him a spot to nationals. The top five spots from each heat plus the two next fastest times qualified. Brueckman crossed at 3:39.04 – also good for fifth overall between the two heats.

Ending the day, the Colorado State men's 4x400-meter relay team captured the school record, finishing with a time of 3:08.27 – beating the previous mark by .60, which was earlier this season. The members of the team were John Fulton, DeVon Washington, Jack Cauble, and Tom Willems with the latter placing 17th earlier in the day in the 400 quarters.

Saturday marks day two on the women's side, starting at 12 p.m. MT with the discus in which Gabi McDonald and Michaela Hawkins are ranked in the top 20. The start of the track events also commences the rest of the Rams' action, beginning with the 4x100-meter relay at 4 p.m. followed by the 3,000m Steeplechase (Emily Chaston) at 4:40 p.m., the 400m quarterfinals (Lauren Gale) at 5:50, the 400-meter hurdles (Yolonda Johnson) at 6:265 p.m. and lastly the 4x400-meter relay to close the day at 7:45 p.m.
