Jackson Morris earns another All-American nod, while Heptathlon gets underway

EUGENE, Ore. – Through four events, Lexie Keller stands 11th in the women's heptathlon, while Jackson Morris concluded competition at the NCAA Championships with a 21st-place finish in the men's discus Friday at Hayward Field.

After Wednesday's 14th-place javelin placement earning NCAA Second Team All-American honors, Morris added an Honorable Mention accolade for his discus showing to end his season. In his first attempt, Morris threw a distance of 174'3'' for seventh and did not improve upon it in his following two throws. By the end of the first flight, he was ninth but slid to his final placement after the second flight. Going into the week, Morris was already the first Ram ever to compete in both the discus and javelin at NCAAs and furthermore the first student-athlete nationally since 2006. By reaching nationals, Morris extended CSU's streak to three in having at least one male in the discus competition.

Meanwhile on the women's side, Keller and the women's heptathlon got underway around 2 p.m. MT with the 100-meter hurdles and concluded it's fourth event of the day, the 200, around 9 p.m. MT.

Keller did not reach any personal bests but danced around them. In the hurdles, she won the fourth heat with a time of 13.92 – just .05 from her 8th-best mark in school history and third-best time this season. She was breezing through the high jump, advancing on the first three heights until needing her last attempt to get past 5'6.5'' where she ultimately finished – two inches shy from her PR. Next, she gained some ground by placing fifth in the shot put with a mark of 42'2''. Closing the day, Keller crossed the 200 at 25.43, which is half a second behind her best.

At 3397 total points, Keller is 83 points away from eighth place, 143 from the top five and 525 from the leader, Florida's Anna Hall.

The multi's first event on Saturday will be long jump at 11:30 a.m. MT followed by the Javelin (12:45 p.m. MT) and the 800m finale at 5:13 p.m MT.
