Sprinter pushes her win total to 11 races on the season
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – For a debut season, Lexie Trietley couldn't ask for much more.
Â
For the fourth time this year, the Colorado State sprinter has earned Mountain West Freshman Swimmer of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday. The Olean, N.Y., product remains the only freshman in the league to win the honor more than once.
Â
Trietley helped the Rams remain undefeated on the season and for the past 22 dual meets as she posted a pair of race wins as the Colorado State women's squad beat North Texas 228-72 and tied host Northern Arizona at 150 – the first tie in program history -- this past Friday in Flagstaff, Ariz. Trietley picked up her 10th and 11th individual race wins on the season as she took the 50-yard freestyle in 23.15. She came back to win the 100 freestyle in 51.28, a race she has not lost in her first collegiate season.
Â
In addition, she anchored both of the team's relays, with the 400 free team securing the points needed for the squad to keep its unbeaten run alive.
Â
Colorado State's roster has now been recognized by the conference eight times this season, with Lucy Matheson being named swimmer of the week three times, Erin Dawson once. The freshman honor is just two years old, with Trietley becoming the first to be recognized for times. Air Force's Corbyn Cormack was tabbed three times last season.
Â
The Rams will resume competition Jan. 20-21 at the Air Force Academy with duals against four teams, the host Falcons, Seattle, Colorado Mesa and BYU.
