Freshman notches PRs in her final races of the season
DENVER, Colo. – The idea behind a meet of such a nature is to allow swimmers a chance to cap one season on a high note and have it serve as a launching point for the next. Colorado State freshman Leigha O'Connor took full advantage of what Denver's First Chance Meet had to offer her on Friday and Saturday.
O'Connor, from Clermont, Fla., posted a trio of personal bests in four races covering the two days
"Leigha is a racer and definitely seized the opportunity this weekend to get faster and send her teammates off with a charge," CSU head coach Christopher Woodard said. "She hit three PRs and posted her best 100-yard butterfly in more than two years."
O'Connor was the only Ram not heading to Houston this week who elected to grab the extra swims, placing second in two races, third in another and fifth in a fourth. She placed second in both the 100 and 200 freestyles, posting times of 52.09 and 1:53.75, respectively, then placed third in the 50 free at 23.85. Her 100 fly time was 57.21.
Colorado State heads to Houston on Monday for the Mountain West Championships with will take place Feb. 15-18 at the CRWC Natatorium on the University of Houston campus. Competition begins Wednesday with a pair of relays and one of the three diving events.
