Keller notches season best heptathlon score as the senior continues to represent Colorado State
EUGENE, Ore. – Three Rams apart of the Colorado State Track and Field team stepped into the national light this last weekend as Lexie Keller, Jackson Morris and Gabi McDonald all represented Colorado State while competing at the 2023 USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships from July 6-9.
Â
Keller, the lone senior of the three Rams who despite graduating and competing in her final NCAA season this last spring continues to represent Colorado State, finished her fourth heptathlon of the 2023 outdoor season and it was her best performance of the year. Finishing with a total of 5,716 points, just 118 points of her school record holding personal best score of 5,834 points, Keller's best event was the 800-meter run where she finished third in the field, ending her heptathlon off strong.
Â
Morris was the next Ram to compete as the thrower took part in the men's javelin throw Saturday afternoon. The 2023 men's javelin Mountain West Champion threw a top mark of 66.54 meters in the championship competition, claiming 10th place. Morris also placed 10th earlier this season at the NCAA Championship Meet where he claimed a spot on the All-America second team.
Â
Lastly, McDonald took the stage in the women's discus Sunday afternoon. In May, McDonald shattered her personal record to not only claim the 2023 women's discus Mountain West Championship title but also set a qualifying mark for the USA Championships. McDonald finished 14th overall with a top mark of 50.75 meters in the competition. She too claimed All-American status during the 2023 NCAA Outdoor season, earning her way onto the first team after placing seventh in the women's discus at the NCAA Championships last month.
