Barr comes to Colorado State to lead mental health and performance initiatives.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Ross Barr, Psy.D, LP, has been named Colorado State's Director of Student-Athlete Mental Health and Performance and will lead mental health and performance initiatives for the well-being of Colorado State's nearly 400 student-athletes, the department announced on Tuesday.

Barr joins the Rams' Health and Performance staff, led by Senior Associate Athletic Director for Health and Performance Terry Dezeeuw, which includes sports medicine, sports nutrition, strength and conditioning, and mental health and performance, to provide Ram student-athletes the holistic care model experience.

"I could not be more excited to be joining the Colorado State family and become a part of establishing an incredible foundation for student-athlete mental well-being and expanding the mental performance services available to student-athletes and teams," Barr said. "My family and I have been looking to settle in the Fort Collins area for several years, and after a series of fortunate events, we have been able to see that dream come true because of Colorado State University."

Barr comes to Colorado State from the University of Northern Colorado where he spent the Spring 2023 semester as the department's Mental Health Coordinator. While with the Bears, Barr maintained individualized appointments including drop-in and emergency availability options. He provided psychoeducation to student-athletes, coaches, staff, and others as well as coordinated program development around mental health initiatives.

Prior to coming to northern Colorado, Barr spent nearly two years as an owner/operator of his own private practice in Eden Prairie, Minn. He also spent four-and-a-half years as the clinic director and psychologist for Sonder Behavioral Health and Wellness in Minnetonka, Minn.

Barr earned his undergraduate degree from Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio, and his postgraduate degrees from the School of Professional Psychology at the Forest Institute. Barr holds psychologist licenses in both Colorado and Minnesota and is a former student-athlete himself, having competed on the men's soccer team at Muskingum as an undergraduate.
