Meitz leads 6-7-8 finish for Rams
AIR FORCE ACADEMY – A bit more polish. A lot more consistency. Better scores.
Â
It's proven to be a valuable mix for Colorado State's trio of women's divers, a trend which continued Thursday on the 1-meter board at the Air Force Diving Invitational as all three Rams qualified for the finals on the opening day. The trio finished all in a pack in the top eight, led by Jozie Meitz in sixth with a finals score of 248.75.
Â
"I couldn't be prouder on how our divers competed," Bergere said. "It wasn't perfect, but all the divers were consistent, excited, and composed themselves well. The competition was very good, but we held our own and did a fine job.
Â
"The scoring was tough. The judges were tight."
Â
Maggie Di Scipio was just behind at 248.60, with Braeden Shaffer in eighth at 245.45. Meitz and Di Scipio increased their scores by 13-plus points from the preliminary session of 39 divers; Shaffer was less than 2 points off hers.
Â
The continued a strong showing of late from Meitz, who was battling injuries early in the year. After performing well in the final dual against Northern Colorado, Bergere saw the day as her stacking solid performances.
Â
"Jozie is diving well. She has always been a very good competitor when healthy," he said. "She feels good about her performance today and has been improving."
Â
The competition continues Friday with the preliminary session for the 3-meter springboard starting at 10:30 a.m., followed directly by the finals for the top 12. Saturday will feature the platform, starting at 10 a.m.
