Sophomore places 35th on 1-meter springboard

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.  – For Maggie Di Scipio, it was an encouraging step.

Competing at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships for the first time, the Colorado State sophomore placed 35th on the 1-meter springboard on Monday at Northern Arizona.

Di Scipio scored 227.15 in a field of 48 competitors. Her best dives were her final two, scoring a 42.0 and a 44.40 to close out the preliminary round.

Colorado State diving coach Chris Bergere was pleased with the way she handled her zones debut.

"I feel pretty good about her diving well and doing it against a field full of accomplished, national-level divers," he said. "She was consistent. This fact has made her whole year. She got good experience today and learned a ton."

Di Scipio, who ranks sixth on all three boards at Colorado State, will compete on the 3-meter springboard Tuesday. The preliminary round begins at 11;30 a.m. MT. Live scoring and a live stream are available.
