Breaststroker owns multiple WAC medals

After hitting the transfer portal with success last year, Colorado State women's swimming and diving coach Christopher Woodard has once added veteran experience he expects will make an immediate impact on his team.

Skyler Lyon, a four-time placer at the WAC Championships in the 100-yard breaststroke for Utah Tech, will join the Rams for the upcoming season, Woodard announced Thursday. Lyon, who will enter the Sports Management Master's Program, has one more year of eligibility remaining.

"Skyler is a proven winner at every level. We immediately knew we were inviting an athlete who was invested in their training and performance," Woodard said. "Skyler can provide more punch to our breaststroke/individual medley group and has the attitude and the veteran leadership which will help us continue to pursue our goals as a program."

Lyon reached the championship finals in the WAC all four years of her career with Utah Tech, her best individual finish the runner-up in the 200 breast in 2022. In 2023, she helped the Trailblazers' 400 medley relay win a conference title, while the 200 medley team placed second. Her top times from a season ago in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events would rank in the top 10 at Colorado State.

Lyon, a native of Riverton, Utah, joins four freshmen who signed earlier this season as incoming Rams. The team is coming off a strong run at the end of the season, with Erin Dawson winning a pair of Mountain West championships to help pace the team to a third-place finish, the best showing since 2004.
