Di Scipio leads squad on second day
AIR FORCE ACADEMY  – Colorado State's divers competed on the 3-meter springboard on the second day of the Air Force Diving Invitational, coming away encouraged with aspects of their performance.
Â
Maggie Di Scipio finished 16th in the preliminaries with a score of 231.80, while Riley Lee finished 19th at 219.20. Noelle Tobin scored 208.25, while Makenna Post closed at 199.35.
Â
"Maggie was a little better today. She dove well," CSU diving coach Chris Bergere said. "We did an easier set list today because she's been dealing with a sore shoulder. She wanted to feel she could compete in a meet, which she did. Even though she did an easy list, she did pretty well. She was just missing the degree of difficulty part."
Â
Lee was on track for a top-half finish in Friday's event until she had a hiccup on one of her dives. She had paced the Rams the day before on the 1-meter, with Bergere feeling she's performed 11 really solid dives.
Â
He likes her progress, noting experience will serve her well down the road.
Â
"Riley dove pretty good. She was good, but she missed one dive," he said. "She had a good top, but she just got anxious. I chalk that up to being a little bit green, her first college year and knowing how to compete. It's how to save a dive. She's really not that far out. If she hits that dive, she would have been near 240."
Â
The meet closes Saturday with the platform tower. Bergere is unsure Di Scipio will dive, just to save some wear on her shoulder, but the other three Rams – all freshmen – will compete. Bergere feels it is a plus for the trio who have limited experience in the event.
Â
The preliminaries begin at 9:30 a.m., with a live stream available.
