Lesnar Captures Weekly Conference Honor

Ram recognized after nation-leading shot put performance.
FORT COLLINS – It didn't take long for the reigning Mountain West Female Athlete of the Year to earn another conference recognition as Mya Lesnar was named the league's female field athlete of the week after her first competition of the season, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Lesnar – who is the reigning NCAA Indoor Shot Put Champion – resumed her position atop the nation as she posted this season's best mark with a throw of 18.81m/61-8.5 at the New Mexico Team Open. The senior is more than eight inches ahead of any other thrower in the country after just one meet this season.

The Rams take this week off before splitting forces to take on two meets next Friday through Saturday (Feb. 14-15). Half of the team will return to Albuquerque for the Don Kirby Elite, while the rest of the Rams will travel to Seattle, Wash., for the Husky Classic. These meets will represent the final tune-ups ahead of the MW Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held in Albuquerque from Feb. 27-March 1.
