Lesnar, Shukurani and Lanfear recognized by the conference
FORT COLLINS – On the heels of historic performances at Saturday's Doug Max Invitational, a trio of Colorado State track and field athletes have earned weekly recognition from the Mountain West. Mya Lesnar was named the league's women's field athlete of the week, while Ndayiragije Shukurani and Grace Lanfear collected the men's and women's freshman of the week awards, respectively.
Â
Lesnar delivered one of the best shot put performances in NCAA history in front of a home crowd, throwing 19.60 meters/64-feet- 3.75 to extend her conference and program record while claiming the Jack Christiansen facility record. The throw stands as the fifth-best in collegiate outdoor history, while Lesnar herself became the third-best performer in collegiate outdoor history behind Oregon's Jaida Ross – who owns each of the top three marks –  and Ohio State's Adelaide Aquilla who threw the fourth-best mark in 2022.
Â
Shukurani delivered a historic performance in his own right as the freshman became the third Ram ever to clear a height of seven feet in the men's high jump. The Everett, Wash., native won the high jump event with a career-best mark of 2.14/7-0.25, the best in the conference this season and the second best in program history. His day was far from done, however, as he went on to record a personal-best 15.27/50-1.25 in the triple jump, the best mark among conference freshmen this season.
Â
For Lanfear, she ran a personal best 59.48 in the 400 hurdles. The Boise, Idaho, native's time ranks as the sixth-best time in the conference this season and the seventh-best in Colorado State history.
Â
The Rams have wrapped up the regular-season portion of their schedule and now look towards the Mountain West Outdoor Championships in Fresno, Calif., from May 15-17. The CSU women are looking to make it three-straight outdoor titles, while the men's program looks to do the double after winning the conference indoor title in March.
