Lee, Ovesen show improvement on 3-meter

After getting their first taste of NCAA Zones competition on Monday, both Riley Lee and Sydney Ovesen performed better on Tuesday as the Colorado State diving pair hit the 3-meter springboard.

Lee, a sophomore, placed 25th in the 46-person field, scoring a 245.25, while the freshman Ovesen was 30th at 242.80. Both averaged scores better than 40.00 in their six-dive sets after posting only one score of 40 or better the day prior. Both Lee and Ovesen scored 50 on at least one of their dives, each on with their back 2 ½ somersault tuck.

"Just like what we talked about, it was taking something away from yesterday, learning something and being better prepared, a little more comfortable and performing better dives," CSU diving coach Seth O'Dea said. "They've earned the offseason. Both of them were happy and proud of how they did today. I think they're coming away with some motivation from being in a talented crowd and hanging in there with some talented athletes. It gives them motivation to keep working in the offseason."

While the season is now concluded for O'Dea's crew, the Rams still have two swimmers finishing out the season as Erin Dawson is set to compete at the National Invitational Championships beginning Thursday, while Tess Whineray will compete at the NCAA Championships in Atlanta on March 18-21.
