Kovatch enters NCAA top five

BOULDER – Colorado State track and field completed its three-meet weekend on Saturday with the conclusion of the Jerry Quiller Classic, Standford Invite, and Mike Fanelli Track Classic.  
 
Jerry Quiller Invite 
  • Men's high jump made their debut on Saturday, carrying momentum from a successful indoor season by sweeping the podium at the Jerry Quiller classic. Rhys Travis, Jesse Imemba and Ndayiragije Shukurani made up the top three on the day. Travis notched a season best 2.06-meters/6-foot-9 to finish in third while Jesse Imemba made his outdoor debut for the Rams, topping out at 2.11-meters/6-foot-11. Shukurani won the event with a mark of 2.14/7-0.25, then moved to the 2.19-meter bar where he narrowly missed his third attempt.  
  • Trenton Givens made his outdoor debut for the Rams, kicking things off with a 14.14 in the 110 hurdles, winning the event. Givens time ranks in a tie for 11th in school history. 
  • Anna Wehreberg ran a season best 57.22 in the 400 meters to win the event. On the men's side of the 400 Andrew Waletich ended in second place with his 48.26. Ella Pickron hit the 12-foot mark in the pole vault to enter the CSU record book's top 20. 
  • The women's discus was a shining light on the day with the Rams finishing 1 through five and adding in three personal bests. Klaire Kovatch led the charge with a career best 59.55/195-04, winning the event and moving to sixth all time in CSU's record book. Kovatch currently sits fifth in the NCAA in the discus, primed for another swing at NCAA Outdoor Nationals.  
  • Men's hammer throw also had a huge day for the Green and Gold, led by Adam Hellbom's career best 66.59/218-5. Hellbom now ranks 19th in the nation and second in the conference. Finishing second place was Leonardo Ramos who hit the 200-foot mark with a throw of 62.06/203-7.  
  • Following Kovatch were Makayla Long, Jet Van Der Heijden, Katy Taylor and Erin Brown. The freshman duo of Van Der Heijden and Taylor each made it over the 51-meter mark for the first time with scores of 51.58/169-2 and 51.01/167-4, respectively. CSU currently holds six of the top seven spots in the Mountain West.  
  • Ramos put together a season best in the shot at 17.69/59-0.5, followed by Bigley at 16.85/55-3.50. Alex Jensen added a season-best finishing sixth with a score of 15.69/51-5.75. 
  • Jensen added a personal best in the discus, throwing 53.08/174-1. He finished second on the day followed by Hellbom and Daniel Baroumbaye.   
Standford Invitational   
  • Ethan Mann and Trent Nosky entered the 800 with Nosky running a personal best 1:50.66 that ranks 15th all time in CSU's record book. 
Mike Fanelli Track Classic  
  • Two Rams entered on each side of the men's and women's 800 meters with Parker Westermann and Tanner Kauffman representing the men's side. Westermann ran 1:51.40 to finish first in his heat. The women's half saw both Ruby Schwelm and Jaycee Williams run personal bests. Schwelm finished third in her heat at 2:10.33, the 11th best mark by a Ram ever. Williams added a PR as well, moving to 15th all time due to her 2:11.59.
