Former CSU competitor will aid cross country and track and field programs

FORT COLLINS  – Colorado State cross country coach Kelly Voelz announced the elevation of Michael Mooney to assistant cross country and track coach on Tuesday. Mooney, a CSU graduate, will continue in his role as the director of operations for both programs.

Mooney is no stranger to the Rams, having spent seven seasons on roster during his career, one which saw him earn all-conference honors four times, his name listed in the top 20 of multiple events upon graduation. While earning academic all-conference honors, he earned his Bachelor's degree in communications with a minor in sports management, then earned his Master's in sports management.

Last season, Mooney was a volunteer assistant coach for the Rams.

"We are thrilled to have Michael Mooney join our staff as a full-time coach and director of operations," Voelz said. "He has been a part of our program for eight years now as an athlete and then as a volunteer coach, and he has always put the team before himself. His work ethic, competitiveness and deep understanding of the sport make him a great mentor for our student-athletes."

As Colorado State's first competition as a member of the Pac-12 comes Sept. 4 when the squad travels to the Wyoming Invitational. Both the men's and women's rosters return five members of their Mountain Regional team, including the top finisher for both – Chris Henry and Tatum Berg.
