Past Mencimer Memorial Award Winners

The Mencimer Memorial Award was established in 1976 by Barbara Mencimer-Maxfield in honor of her parents, Floyd and Catherine Longmore-Mencimer, to be given annually to the most outstanding female scholar-athlete. Floyd Mencimer was a member of the Colorado Aggies baseball and football teams of the early 1930s. During his senior year, Floyd helped guide the Aggies football team to the 1933 conference championship. His wife Catherine was a Women's letter winner in swimming during the mid-1930s and a member of the Women's Athletic Council. Both Floyd and Catherine were top athletes of their day at CSU and helped guide their daughter Barbara in athletics as well.
Barbara Mencimer attended Colorado State from 1956 to 1959 and competed in field hockey, track, badminton, tennis, skiing, swimming, basketball, volleyball and softball prior to intercollegiate competition for women. Barbara would have earned 24 varsity letters in modern day athletics had it been available at the time. Catherine Mencimer died in 1970 at the age of 55 and Floyd Mencimer died in 1974 at the age of 61.
