High School: Benzel lettered four times in cross country and track at Fort Collins High School in Fort Collins, Colo. She was a first-team all-conference selection in 2006, 2007 and 2008 for cross country. Benzel was the 2008 conference champion in cross country and was all-conference in the 3,200-meters in track the same year. She was named first-team all-state in 2007 and 2008, and was also part of the Fort Collins High School 5A girls state championship team in 2008.

Personal: Born Jan. 28, 1991, to Randy and Susan Benzel in Colorado Springs, Colo. She has a younger brother, Marcus. She is majoring in business.
