Terry DeZeeuw (pronounced: Dee-ZAY-oh) joined Colorado State Athletics in February 2006 and currently serves as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Health and Performance. DeZeeuw, whose experience encompasses four top Division I athletic training rooms, oversees the sports performance program for all 16 varsity sports at CSU. He previously served as Head Athletic Trainer in 2006 and was promoted to Associate A.D. for Sports Performance in 2012.
DeZeeuw manages all aspects of the Health and Performance program, and leads a team comprised of athletic trainers, strength and conditioning specialists, sports dietitians, and mental health specialists. Additionally, he coordinates integration of physician services and other ancillary services within the Department of Athletics to support a comprehensive wellness program for CSU student-athletes.Â
DeZeeuw’s previous experience includes eight years at Purdue University (1998-2006) as an assistant athletic trainer. During his tenure, he worked primarily with football, while supervising the athletic training needs of tennis, wrestling, and swimming and diving. In addition to his hand-on athletic training duties, DeZeeuw served as a clinical instructor for Purdue’s undergraduate athletic training program, and as a classroom instructor for the therapeutic exercise course within the athletic training curriculum.
Prior to his time at Purdue, DeZeeuw spent two years (1996-98) at Ohio State as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. In this role, DeZeeuw supported the full-time certified athletic trainers in providing health care for one of the largest athletics departments in the country. During his two years at Ohio State, DeZeeuw gained valuable experience working with the Buckeye Football team, women’s gymnastics, and women’s crew teams, while assisting with wrestling, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, synchronized swimming, and fencing.
A 1996 graduate of the University of Iowa, DeZeeuw spent four years as a student athletic trainer and received his bachelor's degree in exercise science with an emphasis in athletic training. He completed his Master's in Allied Medical Professions with an emphasis in health care management from Ohio State in 1998.
DeZeeuw is a certified athletic trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association.
A native of Hawarden, Iowa, DeZeeuw graduated from West Sioux High School in Hawarden.
He and his wife, Elaine, reside in Fort Collins with their two children, Nadia and Elliot.
