Casey Malone was one of the most prolific discus throwers in Colorado State history and went on to qualify for two Olympic Games. A Colorado native, Malone entered the university in 1996, the same year he won the World Junior Championships discus title, competing in Sydney, Australia. He qualified four times in discus for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, winning the national title in 1998 and becoming a four-time All-American. He won a trio of conference championships and was the first man to surpass 200 feet with a throw, hitting a personal best of 211-6. Upon graduation, he held multiple school records for indoor and outdoor events.
 
Malone went on to win the NACAC U-25 Championships in Monterrey, Mexico in 2000, then qualified for the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He finished fifth in 2004. In 2005, he placed fifth at the IAAF Track World Championships.
 
Casey and his wife, Lindsey (a former CSU track athlete), are both assistant coaches with the University of Colorado track and field program.
