Cecil “The Diesel” Sapp remains as one of the most beloved running backs in CSU history, graduating as one of the program's most prouducive rushers. His 347 rushing attempts in 2002 ranked second in school history, and his career attempts of 540 ranked ninth all time. Named to two all-conference teams (2000, 2002), Sapp helped the Rams win conference championships in 1999, 2000 and 2002. His 1,602 rushing yards in the 2002 season stood as a school record until 2013. Sapp set the school record for the longest run in school history, an 89-yard touchdown run against Air Force at Falcon Stadium on November 11, 2000. In 2002, Sapp led the MWC in rushing yards per game with 114.4, ranking him 15th in the NCAA. 

After graduation in 2002, Sapp was chosen as a free agent by the Denver Broncos in 2003 and played five seasons in the Mile High City. After spending the 2008 season with the Houston Texans, Sapp retired from the NFL and played one season with the New York Sentinels of the United Football League before his pro career ended.
