Rams Fall Late to Northern Colorado

Rams keep the pressure on until a late Bears goal decides it

GREELEY — The Rams (1-2-0) fell to Northern Colorado (1-1-0) with a final score of 2-1 on Sunday at Jackson Stadium. The Rams managed nine shots on goal but were unable to overcome the Bears' two-goal performance.

The first period began with CSU asserting early pressure, recording multiple shots on target but finding Northern Colorado goalkeeper Thordis Melsted in strong form. Skylar Alonso and Bridget Arnold each tested Melsted, but their efforts were saved. Despite CSU's offensive efforts, Madeline Mori scored for the Bears in the 29th minute, putting the Rams behind.

CSU continued to press forward, with Sydney Torres and Ava Wallhead both forcing saves from Melsted as they looked to equalize. However, as the period closed, the Rams were unable to find the back of the net, ending the first half trailing.

The second period began with the Rams quickly making an impact as Kaja Dionne scored in the 55th minute, leveling the match. The visitors maintained pressure, with several attempts on goal by Alonso and Kennedy Albertson, but Northern Colorado's defense, led by Melsted, held firm.

As the period progressed, the Rams continued to press with multiple corner kicks and shots. However, in the 82nd minute, Mori, assisted by Lexi Tuite, found the net, breaking the tie. Despite late efforts to equalize from Wallhead and Arnold, Northern Colorado closed out the win.
